We are all creatures of habit. Some of these are positive and support our well-being. Others, well…not so much. Does it sometimes feel to you that no matter how hard you try, you can’t achieve and sustain behavior change, especially in relation to eating and managing anxiety? Perhaps there is another way. A way that opens a door to self-awareness and compassion leading to both acceptance and lasting change.

The Science And Practice Of Mindful Habit Change combines mindfulness training with facilitation targeting habits. This program is based on Unwinding Anxiety, the work of Judson Brewer, MD PHD, Director of Research and Innovation at Brown University Center for Mindfulness School of Public Health. Dr. Brewer’s work created a ground-breaking, evidence-based method of habit change which engages the brain’s inherent, reward-based learning system. When anxiety strikes, triggering urges to react in ways that are unhealthy, whether it is to overeat or give in to anger or other impulses, we are usually feeling alone to battle the anxiety, overcome the urge and “white knuckle” the situation on our own.

With guidance and group support, we identify the triggers and behaviors and learn to short circuit the habit loop before anxiety takes over. In accordance with the latest neuroscience, change is not dependent on harsh self-discipline, but rather enlists the brain as an ally in moving toward behaviors that are intrinsically healthy and rewarding.

This program is a 90-minute, 8-week class and uses either the Unwinding Anxiety App or book as a source for material, purchased separately.
