Training to Teach “Introducing Mindfulness“, a 10-day, 80 hour teacher training course, provides the skills and attitudes needed to teach mindfulness practices and to present mindfulness talks and guided mindfulness practices. This course deepens your personal practice, develops teaching skills, and trains in theory, research, and professional competencies. While the Introducing Mindfulness curriculum is short concise, and accessible, the training to teach this curriculum is extensive and intensive. It brings-in the Mindfulness-Based Intervensions: Teacher Assessment Criteria and Teacher , internationally recognized and researched standards and competencies for mindfulness teachers. This unique and expertly designed course is offered in collaboration with Oxford Mindfulness Foundation
The course includes experiential practice, didactic teaching, and skills training directly addressing these learning objectives:
- Develop teaching skills in presenting practices and talks
- Deepen your personal practice
- Learn about the research and science of mindfulness
- Develop your professional teacher competencies
- Learn the Intention of the Course, Lead Inquiry, and Be Present as a Teacher
- Understand the Introducing Mindfulness curriculum and the rationale for its elements
- Introduce elements of the curriculum in an embodied way

- Understand theoretical, empirical, and ethical foundations of the course
Who is Training to Teach Introducing Mindfulness for?
This training is for those who would like to introduce mindfulness into their work, organization, community, or other settings. and don’t intend to teach full 8-week courses. For example, it is suitable for those intending to introduce brief mindfulness sessions in general population contexts, workplaces, and educational settings, and for healthcare and mental health professionals planning to introduce mindfulness practices in clinical settings. This training is also useful for those whose audience cannot commit to longer, 2.5-hour weekly mindfulness courses that last 8 weeks or more. It is designed to make mindfulness more accessible and inclusive. Please note that the Introducing Mindfulness course is intended to be delivered to those who are 18 years and older.
What are the Prerequisites?
- Completed one of these three 8-week Mindfulness courses as a student: Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR); Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), or Mindfulness for Life
- Have a regular personal mindfulness practice, ideally for at least a year
- Have the knowledge and experience of the population and context where you would like to teach, for example, workplace, education, criminal justice, physical or mental healthcare, or general population
Access to suitable technology is required for this course and Supervision: internet capacity, space, privacy and the technical ability to participate via Zoom with video and microphone on.
What is the Weekly Overview of Training to Teach?
The Training to Teach Introducing Mindfulness curriculum presented here serves as a general overview and is subject to potential modifications based on the unique needs, insights, and discussions that may arise during class.
- Day 1: Introductions, Theory of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), 50:50 practice, Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Teaching and Learning Companion (MBI:TLC)
- Day 2: Introducing Mindfulness Session 1
- Day 3: Introducing Mindfulness Session 2
- Day 4: Introducing Mindfulness Session 3
- Day 5: Inquiry
- Day 6: Personal Practice Intensive
- Day 7: Personal Practice Intensive
- Day 8A & 8B*: Leading the Introducing Mindfulness curriculum in groups
- Day 9: Additional Practices
- Day 10: Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Ethics, Implementation, and Close

Supervision for Introducing Mindfulness - Included with Tuition
To progress to certification, trainees need to lead two full 3-session Introducing Mindfulness (IM) courses while receiving supervision. The Supervision process is 6-steps including 4 sessions of Supervision (1 Group, 3 One-on-One).
1. Group Supervision (Session 1) after Training to Teach course is completed
- Duration: 30 Minutes
- Who Attends: Your IM Teacher Training class/group
- Purpose: Summarize the certification process and offer the chance for questions
2. One-on-One Supervision (Session 2) before first IM course taught
- Duration: 30 Minutes
- Who Attends: Individual or 2 trainees co-leading the course
- Purpose: Preparation for first IM course
3. Teach and record your first IM course and timestamp sections from each session to review with Supervisor
4. One-on-One Supervision (Session 3) between first and second IM course
- Duration: 30 Minutes
- Who Attends: Individual or 2 trainees co-leading the course
- Purpose: Discuss recordings, strengths, and learning needs identified in first IM course, and prepare for second IM course
5. Teach and record your second IM course and timestamp sections from each session to review with Supervisor
6. One-on-One Supervision (Session 4) after end of second IM course
- Duration: 30 Minutes
- Who Attends: Individual or 2 trainees co-leading the course
- Purpose: Final discussion about key learnings, Supervisor to confirm readiness to recommend trainee for the Certificate to Teach Introducing Mindfulness
Certificate to Teach Introducing Mindfulness
In order to receive a Certificate to Teach Introducing Mindfulness, you need to submit a formal application through the Mindfulness and Health Institute (MHI) website. This link will be sent to you upon successful completion of the Training to Teach Introducing Mindfulness course.
The Certification Process Includes:
- Completing Supervision as detailed above.
- Uploading a statement from your Supervisor that, based on what they have seen of your teaching, they believe you are ready to Introduce Mindfulness into your chosen context.
- Completing your own self-reflection on the experience of leading an Introducing Mindfulness course with the support of a supervisor.
- Once received, your materials will be reviewed. If you have met the requirements, an electronic version of your Certificate to Teach Introducing Mindfulness will be available. You will be informed if additional information is needed.
