Modern Mindfulness: "Fall" Poem

Mindfulness shows up in countless ways—in our relationships, work, creativity, and moments of quiet insight. Modern Mindfulness is a space to celebrate the many ways mindfulness weaves into everyday life.
"Community is a place where we can experience love, acceptance, and a sense of belonging."
~ Attributed to Brian Solis
Fall
Offered to the community by Jenny Smith
As summer turns to fall
I sense a trepidation
and resistance to it all.
The air that cools my skin.
Long sleeves and pants.
Daylight that shrinks too fast.
I wish for what’s past,
to linger longer in the light
and in the warmth
of the wide open summer sun.
But what I want matters not.
I cannot fight back the fall,
I cannot flee from what faces me.
The leaves are changing.
The sun is dimming.
The cold is coming.
So I take a deep breath,
Inhale the cool air,
And I shift what’s within.
Accepting instead.
Appreciating what’s ahead.
Jenny wrote this short poetic reflection during a 12 minute writing period in response to the prompt: What does the fall transition mean to me?
